A stadium of which could put the lives of many in danger is being utilized by Mabopane and Soshaguve residents who do not have sports facilities to use.
Odi stadium in Mabopane, Morula view is being used by some of the community members around to do sports activities. This has been happening for a while and the stadium is not in a good condition.
Sensei Mashele a kickboxing trainer said it has been a while since they have been using the stadium and the securities never refused them to utilise the stadium.
“This stadium is very useful to me as a kickboxing trainer because it helps to make my trainees to be stronger and more conducive,” he said.
Lindela Mashigo, City of Tshwane spokesperson said as far as they know, the stadium is closed for public use due to safety reasons. They did however, receive unconfirmed reports that there are people using the tracks inside the stadium for running.
“The City will look into tightening the security including barricading off the facility and putting up warning signs for the community that the usage of the facility will be at their own risk and the City will not take responsibility for any injuries and/or disasters that may occur,” said Mashigo.
