With a grade 9 certificate (GETC) , learners can now make the life-changing decision to leave high school or to continue to obtain a National Senior Certificate (NSC) better known as Matric certificate. The GETC was introduced to reduce the number of dropouts in high schools and have them leave with a qualification and not empty-handed. With that said is it ideal for learners to leave high school without a matric certificate? When most graduates in South Africa can’t find entry level employment. However, an individual can have a fulfilling career with a grade 9 report card and other skills obtained depending on the industry they work in.
In South Africa to gain entry into a TVET College you need a grade 9 report to study an N1 course in the following programs :
Beauty therapy studies
Computer and IT studies
Child daycare studies
Office work skills studies
Bookkeeping and Accounting studies
Ideally, it will be beneficial to obtain a Matric certificate as it broadens your horizons and doesn’t restrict you to opportunities in South Africa only. Furthermore, a Matric certificate will enable you to get into learnership programs which will give learners experience in their chosen career path.
