“I came up with the idea to host a women and child abuse event because gender-based violence is making headlines each and everyday,” said Maluleka
Tshepo Madzibane one of the few men that attended the event said that as a man he has learned the importance of women in the worldwide,”
“They face a lot of things and we take them for granted, as a man I have to play a role of a father to a girl child so that she can learn that not all men are the same. I must protect her with my all,” he added.
Rebecca Merimetsi from the department of health emphasised the
impact on abuse on mental health.
“There is a lot of abuse that causes stress and stress is a mental disorder. Once the mind is disturbed even if it is a small thing, your mental state is no longer healthy it is disturbed.”
“Stress causes other sicknesses such as high blood pressure, and high blood pressure can cause other illnesses such as heart failure. Hence we say abuse causes illness,” said Merimetsi.
