Residents in Klipgat, Molepo Street, are fed up with people dumping their garbage next to their premises and business area. The garbage is dumped at the old Total petrol filling station between Papata’s Hardware and Ponkana Funeral Parlour office.
The issue has been raised before at a community meeting and they were promised that this issue will be resolved and the community will be allocated a site where they can dispose of their garbage, but to date, nothing has been done and people continue to dump their garbage at the site. An old couple who operate a small food stall next to the dumping site Simon and Johanna Molaledi explained how the rubbish during windy days hovers to their stall and contaminate their products which they sell to people, and may cause health problems.
“Even I get sick because of the smell that comes out of the dumping site, I beg Madibeng Municipality and our ward Councillor to attend to this matter and do something about this garbage, because we can’t live like this anymore,” she said. Her husband, Simon said Madibeng Municipality should have attended the matter a long time ago and put up a signage board that warns the community not to dump the garbage on that site. “Even children are at risk of getting sick or being hurt, because we sometimes see them playing at the dumping site,” he said.
Another resident who asked to remain anonymous, that the place does not look good anymore and they are not happy with the ignorance they receiving from the Councillor’s office, and hopes that their cry to the media might grab the attention of Madibeng Municipality and that of the Councillor, maybe that is when something will be done.
